Homes in this area range from $250k for 800 square feet (size depends on the condition of the house) to homes close to $1 mil. with over 4000 square feet and lots of character. (See photo album.) Many of the homes in this area are older, like from the 1900's to 1940's, and many have been redone. Hyde Park is certainly one of the most well-known areas of town. People from other cities have heard about it, and want to see this historic area when they visit. The homes are all very different. Some are very conservative and traditional, while others are bright purple with lots of yard art. Most are very well kept, but you'll find a few homeowners who don't keep up with their landscaping (which is perfectly acceptable in central Austin--yeah for us!) This neighborhood has Personality with a capital 'P'. If you're looking for unique and central to everything, look no further. Some great things to visit and do in Hyde Park:
Central Market- A wonderful upscale grocery store with everything culinary under the sun. They have a great selection of healthy and organic food, as well as all the gourmet chocolates, wines, and other treats you can think of (including gelato!). They have a lovely outside eating area where great bands play several times a week. Make sure you come prepared for crowds on Friday nights. They also have cooking classes and a great playground for the kids in the shade, so they pack the house with kids, too. http://www.centralmarket.com/cm/index.jsp
Mother's Cafe and Garden-Just off of Duval St. you can find this wonderful little well-known vegetarian cafe. Even if you're not vegetarian they have incredible food! http://motherscafeaustin.com/
Spider House Cafe- Its a restaurant, a bar, a coffee shop and a venue for great music. An old house that has been transformed into this lovely little outdoor patio cafe. Definitely has the Austin Vibe. Attacts lots of students and young people, and the young at heart. http://www.spiderhousecafe.com/
Hyde Park Bar and Grill- Great food and great artwork by local artists. http://www.hydeparkbarandgrill.com/
